Storyline:
Despite being no saint herself, Julia Cody has shielded her seventeen year old son, Joshua "J" Cody, from her Melbourne-based criminal relatives who they have not seen in years. After Julia dies in front of J's eyes from a self-inflicted heroin overdose, J, who is slightly detached from life, feels he has no choice but to contact his maternal grandmother, Janine "Smurf" Cody, the family matriarch, for a place to live. Smurf rules the family with a borderline incestuous love over her three sons, the quietly menacing Andrew "Pope" Cody, the hyperactive Craig Cody, and the barely of age Darren Cody. Pope and his best friend, Barry "Baz" Brown, are armed robbers, with Darren their up and coming apprentice, while Craig is a mid level drug dealer. Melbourne's Armed Robbery Squad is after specifically Pope, who is hiding out. "Over the years Australia has given us a handful of great films however Animal Kingdom is definitely at the top of the heap. The cast brings together an incredible mix of Aussie talent and introduces one of the most sinister and disturbing characters, the matriarch of the underground family. This well paced and wonderfully scored film took me on a journey of emotions as the family unravels. There's not enough ways to describe the rawness and brilliance of the script's ability to explore the disturbing, yet honest, corners of the underbelly dynamic of a modern crime family of psychopaths. To characterize the film as a "must see" is an understatement. The gasps, nervous laughs and racing heartbeats in the audience were almost palpable. The film received an ovation in the theater I saw it in. American filmmakers could definitely take note of the originality and compelling content as they consider how to set their next film apart from the blanket of low brow drama and boilerplate thrillers

Fandango is invaded by "oh no" and "no" retards who, like monkeys, can punch the computer keyboard but have no idea what they are talking about. Thank God I ignored them and saw this crime drama about an Aussie teen who is orphaned and taken in by his scary crime family and their mom (his grandma) who is really like Al Capone. The poor kid isn't sure whether the thug relatives are going to accept him or have him wacked for being so innocent and naive. The movie has twists, turns, good acting, and even some comical moments which were all very entertaining with that Aussie flair. For those who hate violence in movies, there are scenes where people are shot.

I really enjoyed the characters in this film and the dynamic conflict between bad a good! The line blurs so often in this film that at times you are routing for the bad guys! I definitely recommend this film!!!
